Since the remodel has been done, I have been redecorating the house. Man is this a slow process! Everything seems to take about three times longer than I think. But on the other hand, it has been a FUN process! The most fun things for me to do (obvi) are the DIY projects. Topping the list is a sling-back leather chair I recently made that is sitting pretty in the corner of the bedroom. It’s amazing what you can do with a little Glidden® paint and some leather. Here is the full tutorial on how you can make your own!
Paint Brush (one large and one small)
Glidden paint's Onyx Black (Don’t worry Glidden paint only has one black which makes your job easy here! P.S. I used the satin finish.)
Leather (For those of you who have been following along my Leather Couch Chronicles series, I used leather from an old couch.)
Sling Back Beach Chair (I used this.)
Sewing Machine
Leather Needle
Leather Thread
First, remove the fabric from the beach chair. To do this, remove the dowels on each end, and then remove the fabric.
Next, paint the frame of the chair along with the ends of the dowels. I used the large paint brush on most of the chair frame and the small brush to get into any hard to reach places.
Let dry overnight.
Third, cut a piece of leather to the size of the fabric you removed adding 3 inches to the short ends. You will need this extra fabric to fold over and sew. This will serve as the pouch to insert your dowels, so your leather stays into place on the chair.
Fold over the 3 inches of extra fabric on each short end making sure that you have enough room to insert the dowels.
Sew these ends with your sewing machine, leather needle, and leather thread. Stitch twice to reinforce the hold
Pull the sewn ends of the fabric through the slits on the chair. It might take some pulling and tugging to get it started, but once you get the leather through, it’s smooth sailing to pull the rest through.
Insert the dowels into your leather pouches, and you are done!
