I'm sure you have heard of IKEA Hacks, but have you heard of an IKEA clothing hack? I'm so excited to share this lil' idea with you today. This DIY Striped Skirt is my new favorite wardrobe piece. You might have noticed I have been on a striped kick as of late. Do my striped DIY loafers ring a bell? I have a few more striped DIYs up my sleeve, so hopefully you aren't sick of the black + white yet.
Have you seen the Eivor IKEA black + white striped throw at IKEA (above)? You might remember it pictured in the DIY leather slingback chair I made. It is such a great piece to have. Black + white is the new neutral, and it goes with everything. Well, I decided to turn this gorgeous throw into a super chic maxi skirt.
Wrap the throw around you while it is inside out. Pin the ends of the throw together tight around your waist + hips. As you work your way pinning down the skirt, create more room around your knees and feet so you can walk freely. If you don't have anyone to help you pin, turn the skirt around and pin it in the front while looking in a mirror and then flip the skirt around to make sure you like the look.
You will be pinned inside the throw. Now, mark where you pinned the skirt together with two pins on each side of the throw. Work your way down your hips. Now remove the pins around your hips that held the two sides of the throw together. Step out of the skirt.
Sew the zipper onto the top of the skirt according to the zipper instructions.
Sew down the remainder of the skirt where you pinned it together. Trim the extra fabric. Iron the seam open and flat. Flip right side out. And rock it!
